More bilingual schools needed?
I read with much interest the excellent letter from Richard Francke concerning the failing schools. Maybe it is time to convert some of the schools to bilingual only.
The students who spend the time outside class speaking another language at home with their families would have a better learning environment. The small percentage of English-speaking students could then be placed in schools within the district that would challenge them more and bring them up to the level of other students in the district.
These students should not be penalized for having to live in an area where they are getting a weaker education than they deserve. This has been going on too long now and the only changes I see are more high priced staff being hired at the district offices with no concern for all the students.
