Officials hear about Ill. wind turbine concerns

POTOMAC — Officials in Vermilion County in eastern Illinois are considering changes in where wind turbines can be located.

At a hearing Monday night in Potomac some people who live near turbines say they now live with annoying low-frequency noises. Ted Hartke lives in a wind-turbine field and says the noise now wakes him up in the middle of the night. Potomac is about 35 miles northeast of Champaign.

But The News-Gazette in Champaign reports that others among the 130 or so people gathered for the hearing in the Potomac Grade School gymnasium say they want to see more turbines. They talked about the economic benefit they believe they bring.

Wind farm developers suggest that further regulation could cut future growth.
