Voter turnout varied greatly in Northwest suburbs

While voter turnout in suburban Cook County on Tuesday averaged 18.9 percent, it ranged from a high of 56.7 percent in McCook to a low of 3.8 percent in Elk Grove Village, Cook County Clerk David Orr said Thursday.

In Elk Grove Village, where village, township, library, park and fire protection district races all were uncontested, Mayor Craig Johnson said the election was so low profile, he talked to people at village hall who didn’t realize it was election day.

The strongest turnout in the Northwest suburbs was 26.3 percent in the Cook County part of Barrington Hills, where the incumbent village president was turned out of office.

Percent turnout in the Cook County part of other Northwest suburbs was as follows: Rosemont, 24.5 percent; Des Plaines, 22.7; Arlington Heights, 20.9; Barrington, 18.8; Wheeling, 15.6; Bartlett, 14.7; Hoffman Estates, 14.4; Streamwood, 12.2; Mount Prospect, 11; Palatine, 10; Roselle, 7; Inverness, 6.7; Hanover Park, 4.6; and South Barrington, 4.2.
