Benefits seen in small governments

In all the calls for governmental consolidation in the name of efficiency, let’s not lose sight of what works and what doesn’t. I live in Palatine Township, where the roads are clean and in great repair, the snow is plowed in a timely manner, the food pantry serves a lot of needy families and, best of all, I can talk to my elected officials face-to-face when I want to get their attention. Try that in Cook County or most other “consolidated” forms of increasingly nonlocal units of government.
