Villa Park man faces gun charge
A Villa Park man has been charged with illegally possessing a semiautomatic handgun, police said Tuesday.
Ismael Garcia, 20, was arrested March 20 by officers responding to a report of a man with a gun on the 400 block of West Division Street in Villa Park. According to a news release, Garcia was apprehended after a short chase and later admitted possessing a loaded 9-mm Taurus semiautomatic handgun, which police recovered.
Court records show he is barred from possessing firearms because of a prior felony conviction. Garcia was charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and resisting or obstructing police.
He remained jailed Tuesday on $90,000 bail. His next court date is April 2.
