South Elgin wins two in Kentucky

South Elgin became the first Fox Valley area softball team to actually play on Friday, and the Storm opened the season with two wins.

Playing in the Lone Oak High School tournament in Paducah, Ky., South Elgin opened with a come-from-behind 7-6 win over Mountain Home, Ark., then defeated Bolton, Tenn. 11-0.

Junior Katie Koss picked up the win for the Storm in both games. She came on in relief of Paige Allen in the first game and South Elgin, down 6-3 going into the bottom of the fifth and final inning, scored 4 runs to post the win.

Freshman Cassidy Westlund was 2-for-3 with a double, Alyssa Buddle went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Koss has a double and an RBI.

Koss went 3 innings and Taylor Rees finished the win over Bolton.

Buddle was 2-for-2 with a triple and 2 RBI for the Storm, while Katie Koss (2-for-2, 2B, RBI), Brittany Koss (3B) and Mallory Mecklenburg (2-for-3, 2B, 3B) also contributed to the 11-hit attack.

South Elgin will play Livingston County, Ky., today at 10:45 a.m. today, with a single elimination bracket to follow.
