Applicants sought for Geneva 2nd Ward vacancy
Geneva is seeking someone to fill the 2nd Ward vacancy left by the death last month of Alderman Ralph Dantino.
The mayor and city council will appoint the replacement at the second city council meeting in May, according to a prepared statement from the city.
Applications are to be sent to 5th Ward Alderman Craig Maladra in care of City of Geneva, City Hall, 22 S. First St., between March 18 and April 12. Applicants should include a resume and letter explaining why they want the appointment and important issues they believe the city is facing.
Applicants may be interviewed by Maladra and 3rd Ward Alderman Dawn Vogelsberg. Three nominations will then be submitted to the mayor, and the mayor will recommend one to the city council. The appointee will serve a two-year term.
Applicants must have lived in the 5th Ward for at least one year, be a registered voter and comply with all other requirements as set forth in the Geneva City Code of Ordinances and Illinois Compiled Statutes.
Dantino died of cancer Feb. 18. He was up for re-election April 9, and his name will still appear on the ballot. He was unopposed.
