No injuries in Batavia warehouse fire

No injuries were reported in a large fire at an Aldi’s warehouse in Batavia that took officials several hours to extinguish early Saturday morning, officials said.

Batavia Fire Department officials responded to the warehouse fire at Aldi’s on the 1200 block of North Kirk Road just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday morning, according to a news release.

Six fire trucks and 32 personnel responded to the large fire and were not cleared from the scene until nearly 3 a.m., the release said.

Although the fire activated multiple smoke detectors, it was not large enough to activate the buildings’ fire suppression system, so crews had to work for several hours to extinguish the fire and ventilate significant smoke from the warehouse, according to the release.

The fire appears to have originated in a work area on a bench, but the cause remains under investigation.

No injuries were reported.
