Fox River and Countryside could vote on land purchase tonight

A third permanent fire station for the Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue district might be just one vote away from becoming a reality.

Trustees are expected to vote on the purchase of the old Wise-Hamlin Plastic Factory at 7 tonight. The district has already made a formal offer on the property, which was tentatively accepted by the owner. The property is located at 6N330 Route 25 in unincorporated St. Charles.

The vote would signify a finalization of the offer. If trustees approve the purchase, the district will begin the zoning process with Kane County to construct a new firehouse as soon as next month.

If successful, the temporary location of Station 3 in South Elgin would be moved back within the district’s actual service boundaries for the first time.

The district is responsible for a 50-mile territory that covers St. Charles, Campton and Wayne townships in Kane and DuPage counties. It includes sections of the villages of Wayne and Campton Hills.

Tonight’s meeting is at 40W304 La Fox Road, Unit C, St. Charles.
