Man dies in Lake Barrington fire

A man died after a fire broke out in his Lake Barrington townhouse Tuesday morning.

Wauconda firefighters responded to the blaze shortly before 9 a.m. on the 600 block of Shoreline Road.

Bystanders alerted firefighters to a man trapped in the first-floor unit where the fire originated.

The man was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington, where he was pronounced dead.

About $200,000 in damage was done to the unit. The building’s other three townhouses were still habitable, said Batallion Chief Kevin Pyne.

Several departments help fight the blaze: Lake Zurich, Long Grove, Nunda, Countryside, Barrington, Buffalo Grove, Cary, Fox River Grove and Round Lake.

Officials continue to investigate the cause of the blaze. Fire alarms were working in the unit.
