Girl Scouts from Grove Avenue School in Barrington received the first Alden badges on Jan. 28.
Members of Girl Scout Troop 838 were presented with Alden badges in recognition of their work with the short-term rehabilitation patients and long-term residents at Alden Estates of Barrington Rehabilitation & Health Care Center in Barrington.
"I am proud of the girls for their dedication to the residents and for visiting over the course of the last three months," said Karen Fitzgerald, co-troop leader.
Alden Estates of Barrington surprised the girls with a special presentation and reception that involved the troop not only receiving their badges but also being given certificates, Valentine's Day goody bags and freshly baked cupcakes and goodies.
"It has been a positive experience," Fitzgerald said. "It is nice that the girls have an opportunity to see there is more outside of school than just selling cookies or earning a badge. They can actually help brighten someone's day."
