Aurora bank robber flees in taxi

A bank robber fled in a waiting cab Thursday after taking money from a teller in Aurora, authorities said.

The robbery occurred about 12:10 p.m. at Banco Popular, 2 S. Broadway Ave., police said.

The suspect handed the teller a note demanding money and, after taking an undisclosed amount of cash, left on foot and entered “what appeared to be” a waiting taxi, according to a police department news release.

The vehicle was last seen heading south on Broadway, police said.

The suspect was described as a white male in his 30s, about 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing 190 pounds. He has brown hair and eyes and was last seen wearing a red hat and blue jacket. He also had a goatee.

No injuries were reported.

Aurora police and FBI officials said they were continuing to investigate the robbery, and asked those with information to call either (630) 256-5500 or (312) 421-6700.
