Warren’s Jones sets school record in 3,000 meters for Augustana
Augustana’s Sarahbeth Jones was named a College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Women’s Indoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.
Jones, a senior from Wadsworth and graduate of Warren High School, set a school record in the 3,000-meter run during the Olivet Nazarene Invitational.
Her time of 10:14.66 beat the previous school record of 10:15.27 by Susan Paige in 1999.
Jones also anchored the 4x800-meter relay that won with a time of 9:31.21. That was also a school record, bettering the previous time of 9:38.13 set in 1998.
Jones began the 2013 indoor season by winning the 3000 at the Sol Butler Invitational in Dubuque, Iowa with a time of 10:25.65.
At the Midwest Invitational in Monmouth, she won the mile in a time of 5:12.04 and finished second in the 800 with a time of 2:24.76.
A year ago during the indoor season, Jones won the 3000 at the CCIW Indoor Championships.
She was also a member of the CCIW champion distance medley relay that set a new school record with a time of 12:13.73.
Women’s basketball
Ÿ Wisconsin-Green Bay senior Lydia Bauer (Lake Zurich) is averaging 9.7 points and 32 minutes per game for the Phoenix (17-2). She also has 8 blocks, 19 steals and 4.7 rebounds.
Ÿ Junior Audrey Bauer (Lake Zurich) at United States Naval Academy (13-9). is averaging 9.7 points and 32 minutes per game for the United States Naval Academy. She is shooting 77.8 percent from the free throw line.
Ÿ Hampton senior Olivia Allen (Lake Zurich) is averaging 10.4 points and 24 minutes for the Pirates (17-5). She has 29 3-point baskets (36.7 percent) and is shooting 78.8 percent from the free throw line.
Ÿ North Park’s Nicole Kruckman (Libertyville) scored 8 points with 5 rebounds in a 60-45 win over Augustana.
Men’s basketball
Augustana’s Brandon Kunz (Lake Zurich) led the Vikings with 19 points and 9 rebounds in a 90-61 win over North Park.
Ÿ Illinois Wesleyan’s Kevin Reed (Prospect) finished with a double-double of 11 points and a career-high 16 rebounds in a 71-52 victory over Elmhurst. The Titans moved to 8-0 in conference play for the first time since the 1995-96 season
Lancer “Spirit Night”
On Feb. 19th, College of Lake County is holding a combined “Spirit Night” and “Sophomore Recognition Night.”
The women’s basketball game will begin at 5:15 p.m. and the men’s contest at 7:15 p.m. It is the last home game of the season for both teams.
Sophomores on the women’s team to be honored are Jennifer Totten and Donielle Taggart.
The men’s team sophomores who will be recognized are Layne Gierke, Will Meyer, Anthony Starks and Patrick Peterson.
The College of Lake County club with the most number of attendees will receive a free pizza party and be awarded the Lancer Spirit Award for 2013.
In addition, the winning club will be featured on Facebook.
Presentation to the winning club will take place at halftime. All club members must be registered 10 minutes prior to halftime to be counted.

Men’s soccer
Rutgers sophomore midfielder Brian Goss (St. Viator) has been named the fourth and final captain for the upcoming 2013 season,.
“As we head through the preseason and prepare for the upcoming spring, it was obvious to the coaching staff that Brian has become a leader both on and off the field who complimented our other three captains,” said Rutgers coach Brecht. “We are excited to have Brian become one of our leaders as we get ready to start the 2013 season.”
In 2012, Goss finished his first Rutgers season as the only freshman to start all 15 games. He totaled 20 points on 11 goals and 9 assists. The midfielder collected 16 groundballs on the year and was named to the BIG EAST weekly honor roll on April 16.
Women’s tennis
In a dual meet against Iowa, Iowa State senior Jenna Langhorst (Fremd) dropped the first set of her No. 5 singles match, 1-6, but responded by taking the next set by the score of 6-4.
Langhorst took the final set with a score of 6-1 to give the Cyclones their only point of the meet.
Earlier in the day, Langhorst and doubles partner, Emma Waites, teamed up for a No. 3 doubles victory. Langhorst and Waites defeated Ellen Silver and Christina Harazin of Iowa, 8-3.
“I just wanted to come out here my senior year against an in-state rival, and I really wanted to go out with a bang,” Langhorst said. “I really wanted to win, and I fought really hard.”
Cyclones coach Armando Espinosa was impressed with Langhorst’s play.
“I couldn’t be happier for her in her senior year,” Espinosa said. “Against a big in-state rival, it’s great to see her fight through the first set. She stuck with it, and she knew what she needed to do.”
