Chicago police trying to ID bones found in river
CHICAGO — Chicago authorities say they’ll have to use DNA testing to identify remains found inside a car pulled from the Chicago River.
Police say the car pulled from the river over the weekend belonged to a Lincolnwood man who disappeared in 2001. The Chicago Police Marine Unit located the car using new sonar equipment.
Michael Jansson was 21 when he disappeared in March 2001. Police say the vehicle identification number of the car found matches the one that was reported missing when Jansson disappeared.
But the Chicago Tribune reports that an examination of the bones Sunday was inconclusive.
Authorities had searched that same area when Jansson vanished but could not find anything.
