Woman hit by train at Naperville station

Naperville police said a woman was taken to Edward Hospital in critical condition after she was struck by a Metra train Thursday afternoon.

Naperville police Sgt. Steve Schindlbeck said police were dispatched to the Metra station at 1:43 p.m. at 475 Fairway Drive.

When police arrived, they found a 40-year-old female underneath the train.

Schindlbeck said she was suffering from internal and external injuries but was still alive.

She was subsequently extricated from underneath the train by Naperville Fire Department personnel and transported to the hospital.

Schindlbeck said a preliminary investigation indicates that it was an intentional act on her part.

No charges are forthcoming, he said.

Schindlbeck said the train was arriving at the station at the time, and the estimated speed was approximately 20 miles per hour.

“It was slowing as it was pulling into the station,” he said.

The incident occurred just east of the platform.

The train was on the northernmost track, so Metra and the Burlington Northern were able to reroute additional train traffic onto the two southernmost tracks.
