EIU football player, student stabbed at party

CHARLESTON — Police are investigating a pair of stabbings that injured two Eastern Illinois University students at a party, including a football player.

Charleston Police Lt. Brad Oyer says police were called to a party early Sunday near campus after a reported stabbing and a large fight. Police later discovered that a second student was stabbed and being treated at a local hospital.

University athletic spokesman Rich Moser confirmed that one victim was a football player. Moser declined to identify the student. Moser says the player is recovering from his injuries.

Administration spokeswoman Vicki Woodward didn’t immediately release information about the second student.

Oyer says both victims were released from the hospital after being treated. Oyer says police would only say they’re looking for a single suspect in the stabbings.
