2 dead, 1 hurt in Illinois Thanksgiving shooting

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. — Illinois State Police say a man apparently shot and killed his estranged wife and wounded his daughter on Thanksgiving Day in East St. Louis before killing himself.

State police Capt. Jim Morrisey says the investigation shows that 69-year-old Bobby Stewart repeatedly shot his 66-year-old wife, Dorothy McCaskill, with a handgun at their home. They say he then shot his 44-year-old daughter in the leg as she fled to a neighbor’s house.

McCaskill died at the scene. The daughter was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Her medical status wasn’t immediately known Friday.

Police using a robot to search the home found Stewart dead in a second-floor bedroom of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Morrisey says two guns were found inside the home.

Autopsies were planned.
