Huntley man charged with soliciting child
Elgin police arrested a 34-year-old Huntley man Wednesday on charges he used the Internet as a tool to groom and attempt to sexually abuse a child, according to authorities and court records.
Shawn M. Egan, of the 12000 block of Tahoe Drive, is charged with indecent solicitation, indecent solicitation of a child over the Internet, indecent solicitation/criminal sexual abuse and grooming, according to court records.
The most severe of the charges, which are all felonies, carries a prison term of four to 15 years if convicted.
Egan posted a $5,000 bond on Thursday and was released from jail, according to the sheriff’s office.
He is due in court on Wednesday.
Elgin Police Cmdr. Glenn Theriault, the department’s spokesman, could not be reached for comment.
Charges in court records allege the crime occurred on Oct. 27.
Egan does not have any previous convictions for sex crimes, according to a check of records from Kane and McHenry counties. He was, however, arrested on charges of driving under the influence of alcohol and disorderly conduct on Nov. 23, 2007, by Lake in the Hills Police, records show.
He was fined $2,723, given court supervision, ordered to attend a DUI victim impact panel and required to perform 25 hours of community service.
