Thanks for support in years of service

I want to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank-you to everyone who has entrusted to me the ability to serve in so many different capacities. Beginning as a member of the Buffalo Grove zoning board almost 30 years ago, I volunteered to “give back” to our community and to demonstrate to our two young sons the importance of community service. After that, I was privileged to serve as Buffalo Grove village trustee, Buffalo Grove village president, and Illinois state representative for both the 51st and 53rd districts for the past 14 years.

We have seen many changes in our community. Thirty-two years ago when our family moved here, our exceptional schools and services were beginning to develop plans for growth and change. With your support as a community leader I was able to provide direction and leadership. I never took any of this for granted — both your support and friendship and my responsibility and dedication to represent you to the best of my ability.

Most of all, I want to thank my wife Rita. We recently celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary. She has always been by my side and I want to thank her for all of her efforts in each campaign and enduring my absence especially through family hardship, but always encouraging me to pursue my passion.

I am hopeful that at all levels of government, cooperation will be key in finding much needed solutions to the many unsolved problems on our doorstep. I send my sincere good wishes to the Illinois 98th General Assembly as they gather in January to solve these issues. Then indeed we will all be “winners.” I hope to be able to “pay it forward” in gratitude for the endless faith and generosity that has been bestowed upon me.

State Rep. Sidney Mathias
