Palatine church welcomes any and all to Thanksgiving dinner
All Saints Lutheran Church in Palatine is making a place at its Thanksgiving Day dinner table for anyone who wants some tasty food and good company.
Everyone, especially those with no other place to go, is invited to dine with members of the congregation from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 22 at the church, 630 S. Quentin Road.
“We know that many people in our community are alone or separated from their families,” Pastor Seth Moland-Kovash said. “We want them to know there is a place for them at our table. Everyone is welcome.”
Now in its third year, the free event will feature traditional Thanksgiving items including turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole and pie for dessert.
Sandy Malouf, one of several organizers, said local businesses such as Heybeck’s Meat Market, Gus’s Diner and Durty Nellie’s are contributing to the meal, along with many All Saints parishioners. She added that the gathering space in the church will be beautifully decorated.
Last year, the church welcomed nearly 200 guests for dinner and sent take-home meals to public safety officers in Palatine and Rolling Meadows.
“These are troubling times,” said Pastor Jennifer Moland-Kovash, the church’s co-pastor. “But as people of faith we know that there is enough for all of God’s children. And that includes for Thanksgiving dinner.”
