‘Our Town’ coming to Lake Zurich High theater

Lake Zurich High School’s drama department presents Thornton Wilder’s classic drama, “Our Town.”

Set in a simple New England town during the early 1900s, the story follows George and Emily, a young couple who fall in love, marry and suffer the joys and setbacks of everyday life. Wilder transforms their otherwise ordinary existence into a poignant commentary on mortality and preciousness of life.

Using minimalistic scenery and imaginary props, the story is presented in such a way that reminds audiences they are watching a show.

At several points, actors break the “fourth wall” speaking directly to the audience and blurring the lines between what is real and imagined, allowing audiences to see themselves in the shoes of the characters.

Our Town is thought provoking piece that fuses humor and tragedy in such a way that reminds audiences why Our Town remains the most celebrated story in the canon of American Theatre.

Three performances are scheduled for Nov. 8, 9 and 10 at 7:30 p.m. at the Lake Zurich High School Performing Arts Center.

Ticket prices are $8 for students and $10 for adults both online and at the door. To reserve your tickets in advance, visit www.lz95.net/pac.
