Respect the office of president

How can we expect the rest of the world to respect the U.S. when so many of us do not respect our president? In my lifetime I have never seen such blatant disrespect for the person holding the highest office in the nation, and I have been around a long time. It’s one thing when ordinary citizens express their displeasure with the president, but when Republican politicians and officials demonstrate such disrespect, it is unacceptable.

When George W. Bush was president, any disparaging word from anyone was met with swift retribution, but Democratic politicians were careful not to attack the man personally, but to address his mistaken policies instead. We certainly don’t all have to agree with everything from the president, but we must be able to disagree without being disagreeable, mean-spirited and hateful.

I hope the rest of the world knows better than to believe the outrageous remarks from our Republican politicians, who apparently have no ability to conduct themselves with the decorum we have come to expect in society, as they attack the president politically and personally, and often without basis in truth. I think the Republicans should change their ways before they get what they want and we all realize too late that they have brought a revisit to the conditions not so long ago that brought disaster upon us I hope the American people will prove to the Republicans that money can’t buy everything, especially respect.
