A heartfelt salute to Ray Soden

It is with great sorrow that I read about the death of former VFW past commander Ray R. Soden who was many things to us. Not just vets but DuPage County Forest Preserve chairman and many many more accomplishments.

I served with Ray when he was state of Illinois VFW Commander. But much later in life he encouraged me to run for mayor of the city and help turn around the poor image that was prevailing at that time in the early 1990s.

My first check came from Ray and photo endorsement. He was always there to return phone calls and tell me “good job.”

There aren’t enough people around today like Soden but those who knew him gained from his honesty and strong character. Salute to you Ray.
