A little fact- checking is in order

A little fact-

checking is in order

I was astonished that a recent letter mentioned that President Obama signed over 900 executive orders. Not believing everything I read, I went online to Factcheck.org to get clarification and to see if this outrageous claim is in fact correct.

I learned something interesting. Executive orders are numbered sequentially since they were first initiated. President Obama has actually, as of Sept. 25, signed 139 executive orders. As a comparison, George W. Bush signed 160 as of Sept. 20, 2004.

When emails go viral, facts get distorted. During this contentious election season, we should all be doing a little fact checking before we forward an email that sounds outrageous or write a letter to the editor based on such an email.
