Man sentenced for stealing van with baby inside

Associated Press

SIOUX CITY, Iowa — A 26-year-old Sioux City man who stole a van with an infant inside has been given 30 years in prison.

The Sioux City Journal reports that Willie Kimbrough had been convicted in September of theft and other charges. He was sentenced on Tuesday.

Prosecutors say that on Nov. 15 last year, a woman was giving Kimbrough a ride to buy a car. When she got out of her van, Kimbrough sped off in it. The woman’s baby girl was in a back seat during a subsequent chase by officers. They backed off once they learned a child was in the van.

Kimbrough eventually left the child and her mother’s phone number with a stranger he’d seen on a sidewalk.

Kimbrough and the van later were found in Chicago.
