Man in van beckons Huntley girl

Huntley police are looking for a man in a white van they say approached a 16-year-old girl Wednesday evening and asked her to come over, police said.

At about 3 p.m., a white man in his 40s or 50s drove up to the girl near Eastwood Drive and Sawgrass Lane in the Northbridge subdivision and yelled out to her, “Hey you, come here,” but never got out of the van, according to Deputy Chief Michael Klunk.

The girl instead ran home. She and a guardian made a police report two hours later, Klunk said.

Police are looking for a white van with red lettering. At the moment, they have no leads and have made no arrests, Klunk said.

Klunk said the police department has received about 10 reports of similar activity in the past 12 months but many have turned out to be unfounded and involved friends playing jokes on each other. Klunk said the police department has not verified any abduction or kidnapping attempts.

But for now, police are treating Wednesday’s report as a legitimate sighting.

“When we have limited information like this, it’s very hard to make a determination,” Klunk said.

The police reminds the public to call 911 right away if a similar case occurs.

If you know anything about this case or saw the van, call the Huntley Police Department at (847) 551-5311.
