Pension reform, teacher evaluations and unions were among the topics candidates in state Senate and House races that cover Elgin Area School District U-46 argued during an election forum last night at Elgin High School. In the 22nd District race, incumbent Democrat Michael Noland of Elgin and challenger Cary Collins, a Republican from Hoffman Estates, had opposing views on a proposal to shift the pension burden to local school districts. Fred Crespo, a Democrat from Hoffman Estates and incumbent in the 44th District race, and Republican challenger Ramiro Juarez of Streamwood had differing opinions on whether legislators should take action on pension reform during the January lame duck session in Springfield. And Kane County chairman candidates debate in Batavia
It’s one of the largest economic development opportunities Kane County officials have been involved in for several years, but neither candidate for county board chairman last night detailed any definitive vision for what they would like to see at the 700-acre Fabyan Parkway campus. Republican Chris Lauzen and Democrat Sue Klinkhamer met in another debate in Batavia. Full story.
Addison village president says this is his last term
Longtime Addison Village President Larry Hartwig says he thought “long and hard” before deciding not to seek a fifth term in April. “(My wife and I) still intend to stay here in Addison and we still intend to remain active members of our community. There have been no great changes in our lives to prevent me from seeking re-election,” Hartwig said in a written statement. “So the real reason is that I just truly feel it’s time.” Full story.
It’ll be a while for Naperville’s website, email systems
Ten days have now passed since Naperville’s website and email systems were first hacked and at least another week will pass before citywide email and the city website are restored. City Manager Doug Krieger said once the systems are restored, they will be brought back online to each city department, one at a time. Full story.
3 Elmhurst men accused of harassment, computer tampering
Three Elmhurst men are accused of electronic harassment, conspiracy to commit computer tampering, for getting into females’ email and online photo accounts, then posting photos of the victims on another website, without their permission. Police say there may be more suspects, and more victims. Full story.
Volo woman, two children still missing:
Lake County sheriff’s police are still looking for a woman and her two children, reported missing Wednesday afternoon by her estranged husband. Her parents were the last to see Aneta M. Marsek and her daughters, on Saturday. Full story.
