Volunteer coaches sought for Special Olympics basketball in Lake in the Hills

Submitted by NISRA

Volunteer coaches and assistant coaches are needed for a new Special Olympics basketball team for the season beginning Oct. 16 through Dec. 11 and continuing Jan. 8 through Feb. 19.

The team will practice and play home games on Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Lake in the Hills. Players will occasionally travel to play other teams in neighboring communities. Qualifying teams will compete in the state tournament in mid-March 2013.

Coaches need to have knowledge of basketball and a desire to help athletes with disabilities learn and have fun. The teams are organized and run by the Northern Illinois Special Recreation Association. NISRA will provide an orientation for new coaches. Contact Cathy at (815) 459-0737, ext. 228 or cbott@nisra.org for more information.
