Other Aurora sexual assault suspect victims sought

Police are looking for possible victims of a 37-year-old Aurora man arrested Friday, Sept. 28, and accused of sexually assaulting a 31-year-old Davenport, Iowa, woman in January.

Derrick D. Chaney of the 3300 block of Allspice Court in Aurora has been charged with three counts of criminal sexual assault, one count of unlawful restraint and one count of kidnapping in connection with a Jan. 14 attack at a motel in the 2300 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, Aurora police said Tuesday.

Police said they think Chaney connected with the Iowa woman on a dating website, corresponded with her through the Internet and cellphones, then met her in person in January. He allegedly held the woman against her will at the motel and sexually assaulted her.

The ongoing investigation indicates Chaney may have met other women through dating websites or at night clubs in the Northwest suburbs, where he has been known to provide a false name as well as incorrect information about his occupation, financial status and education level. Police said Chaney also is well-dressed at the night clubs he visits, where he brags about having VIP status, and is known to drive luxury vehicles.

Detectives say they are investigating similar crimes that may involve Chaney, so they are asking other women who may have been victimized to contact them at (630) 256-5500.

Chaney is being held in Kane County jail. His bond was set at $500,000.
