Marty’s dedication to local sports showed

Nobody has covered high school sports like Marty Maciaszek. For years, parents, coaches and athletes have been the lucky recipient of his hard work and dedication to high school athletics as well as the life lessons that he provided each day in his articles and blog.

His work is responsible for countless subscriptions to the Daily Herald as residents of the suburbs excitedly anticipated his next article, recap of a big game, or predictions for an upcoming athletic season. When Marty walked into a gym or onto a field, athletes immediately took notice, and their parents eagerly looked forward to the next day’s article and recaps they would read.

In an age of instant information to pro and college sports, one of the things that makes the Herald unique is its local sports coverage; nobody knew this better than Marty. He took the time to personally get to know hundreds of local high school athletes and coaches each year to provide the best coverage of local sports anyone has ever seen. In short, Marty was one of the brightest reasons to open the Daily Herald every day.

All of our local athletes, coaches and parents owe him a giant “thank you” for all that he has done to enrich their lives. Marty is a one-of-a-kind journalist and person. The Daily Herald community will sorely miss his dedication, professionalism and creativity. Thanks, Marty, for all that you have done!
