Elgin man, daughter dead in Lakewood motorcycle crash
An Elgin man and his 16-year-old daughter both died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in Lakewood Tuesday night, authorities said.
Christopher J. Ludovice, 54, and his daughter were riding his motorcycle south on Route 47 at 8:53 p.m. Tuesday when a Jeep Liberty turned in front of him at the Route 176 intersection, said Lakewood Police Chief Lawrence E. Howell.
The impact with the Jeep caused both to be thrown from the motorcycle, Howell said.
Ludovice and his daughter were taken to Centegra Hospital in Woodstock, Howell said. Ludovice was pronounced dead at the hospital shortly after the crash Tuesday night. His daughter died from her injuries Wednesday afternoon, Howell said.
Howell said the driver of the Jeep — William A. Cizek, 49, of Hart Street in Harvard — was cited for failure to yield when making a left-hand turn. “This sounds like one of those truly unfortunate accidents that sometimes happen,” Howell said. “The driver indicated he just didn’t see the motorcyclist when turning.”
