Move Philhaven to site on Dundee Rd.

I would like to commend the Wheeling Village Board for making the right decision regarding Philhaven.

The Hintz Road loacation is the wrong place for a project like this. It required shoehorning in a building too big for the space available in an area prone to flooding.

But more importantly, it would have stranded the residents. The builder originally asked for variances saying many residents don’t have cars and don’t drive. So why put this project where public transit is extremely limited when there are better locations available?

The perfect location is on Dundee Road between Northgate and Wolf. There is plenty of vacant land on the north side of the street. Public transit is available with the Metra station a short walk. Shopping is also within walking distance as is access to the incoming “living center” and the services at the Village Hall.

The Village Board did the propective residents of Philhaven a huge favor by recognizing that it would be unfair to put non-motorized residents far from service, shopping and public transit. Now they need to finish the job by putting this project where it belongs, across the street from the village hall.
