Attic fire damages Long Grove home

One firefighter suffered a minor injury while battling a Sunday afternoon blaze inside a Long Grove home, officials said.

The occupants of the home in the 7000 block of Osage Road were alerted by a smoke detector in their attic at about 3:10 p.m. and escaped without injury, according to the Countryside Fire District.

Firefighters arriving at the scene saw smoke coming from the roof of the ranch style home and the occupants told firefighters the fire was in the attic.

Firefighters were able to contain the fire to the attic, but the rest of the home sustained smoke and water damage, officials said.

The home was deemed uninhabitable due to the damage.

A preliminary investigation indicated that an attic fan caused the fire, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the home thanks to an early detection, officials said. The smoke detector in the attic was connected to the detectors in the rest of the house, officials said.

One firefighter suffered an ankle injury and was taken to an area hospital, according to the fire district.

The Countryside Fire Protection District was assisted by crews from Mundelein, Libertyville, Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Lincolnshire and Long Grove.
