Hanover Park fire guts second floor of house

Investigators still are searching for the cause of a fire that gutted the second floor of a house, but are confident it was accidental, Hanover Park Battalion Chief Larry Pikora said Saturday.

The fire, which was discovered at 7:39 a.m. Friday, started in an upstairs bedroom and sent flames shooting through the rear of a home in the 1500 block of Schnooner Lane in Hanover Park.

No one was home at the time and there were no injuries, but the blaze caused an estimated $75,000 damage and forced the owners to stay with relatives, Pikora said. Firefighters from Bartlett, Bloomingdale and Carol Stream assisted.
