Batavia woman charged with murder

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with murder after a domestic dispute at a Batavia apartment complex that left a man dead early Monday morning, according to police.

Responding officers found the 25-year-old victim unresponsive in a stairwell of the Batavia Apartments and bleeding “profusely” from a stab wound, police said.

Officers responding to the 1:08 a.m. 911 call discovered two women in a struggle at the bottom of the stairwell on the 1200 block of East Wilson Street, and took both women into custody, police said.

Officers recovered three knives in the hallway where the women were struggling, according to police.

The victim was taken to Delnor Community Hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to police. His identity is being withheld pending family notification.

Latoya M. Baines, of the 1200 block of East Wilson Street, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, according to police. She is scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday morning.

Police said the stabbing occurred as a result of a domestic dispute between the victim and Baines.

Batavia police refused further comment until Tuesday morning.
