DiMucci decision will not be rushed

In recent weeks, a number of residents across southwest Lake County have expressed concern over the proposed development of the DiMucci family property, located at the corner of U.S. Route 12 and Old McHenry Road. This letter is to reaffirm my position and my commitment to working with residents, municipal leaders, and the county in assuring the best outcome for the region.

As the process for considering this proposal moves forward, it is critical for residents to know that I stand with them in working to assure that all the issues are addressed in a way that maximizes resident input and respect for local community concerns. I want to be clear that I have not taken any position on the proposed development, except to say that it deserves examination through a fair, open, transparent and fact-based process of review.

There are some key points that will need to be addressed during this review process, including: the impact the proposed development would have on our area, the amount of commercial space, traffic congestion, lake protection, parking, police and fire protection.

I am concerned about the public’s perception that this process is going too fast. Therefore, at my request, the county held three informational open houses to provide information and obtain input that will be considered by the regional planning commission, the zoning board of appeals, and the county board, which will ultimately make the final decision.

Additionally, we recently met with the villages to engage in meaningful dialogue about all the issues. We will continue to coordinate with the villages and ensure there are adequate opportunities for input.

As we move through the review and deliberation process — which will not be rushed — there will be many opportunities for all voices to be heard.
