‘George Halas and the Chicago Bears’ topic at Batavia library lecture

Submitted by Batavia Public Library

“George Halas and the Chicago Bears” will be presented at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 3, at Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave.

The guest speaker will be Patrick McCaskey, senior director of the Chicago Bears and grandson of the late George “Papa Bear” Halas. McCaskey will talk about Halas, his family’s football roots, and the compelling story of those who made the Bears the Monsters of the Midway — from the early days of leather helmets to today’s team.

McCaskey is the author of “Bear with Me: A Family History of George Halas and the Chicago Bears” and “Sports and Faith: Stories of the Devoted and the Devout.” Both books are available through Sporting Chance Press, an independent publisher of books on sports and sporting themes, based in Crystal Lake. Visit sportingchancepress.com.

This is the third lecture of the Library’s New Lyceum Lecture Series 2011-2012 Season, which is sponsored by the Batavia Public Library Foundation.

The program is free, however seating is limited. Registration is required. Register online at bataviapubliclibrary.org or call (630) 879-1393, ext. 200.
