Make time to make a difference

There was a nice article in the paper on March 13 about the people that received Elgin Image Awards. Jack and Marlene Shales won one for decades of service to Elgin. They were given a standing ovation. They really deserved it! Jack was quoted as saying, “We always said if you’re going to complain, you’ve got to do something about it.”

We all do so much complaining about the school district and our neighborhoods. Each one of us needs to join the PTO, join your neighborhood organization or form one, and let councilmen, city staff, our school board and state reps know your feelings. Each one of us can make a difference if we get involved.

We all say, I don’t have the time to get involved. I recently read an article about time. One of the things it said was, “Time is a priority. You have enough time for anything in the world, so long as it ranks high enough among your priorities.”

Our neighborhoods and our schools have to be high on our priorities! We have to make time to fight for them!
