Ex-boxer gets 18-month suspended battery sentence
TERRE HAUTE, Ind. — A former professional boxer who pleaded guilty to sexual battery involving a 14-year-old girl has received an 18-month suspended sentence.
The Tribune-Star reports that 46-year-old Terry Ray was sentenced Tuesday after pleading guilty in January to one count of sexual battery.
Prosecutors say Ray french-kissed the girl during a February 2010 party at his Terre Haute home where teenagers were drinking alcohol and Ray was intoxicated.
The girl’s father said his daughter’s life has changed drastically and she’s endured harsh criticism from peers even though she was the victim of Ray’s actions.
Ray is a former World Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion. His attorney, Joseph Etling, said Ray has been on unpaid administrative leave from his job at the U.S. penitentiary at Terre Haute since his March 2010 arrest.
