One man charged in shooting at In-Laws in Gurnee

A North Chicago man was charged Friday with shooting a person in the leg during a disturbance outside of In-Laws Restaurant in Gurnee earlier this week.

Joe Richardson-Wester, 27, faces one count of unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, and additional counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon-possession without a FOID card and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

Richardson-Wester is in Lake County jail on $100,000 bond, of which he must pay 10 percent.

Gurnee Police Commander Jay Patrick said officers responded to the In-Laws Restaurant and Sports Lounge parking lot, 720 N. Milwaukee Ave., at 11:58 p.m. Wednesday for a disturbance call involving about 15 people.

As the officer approached, he heard what sounded like gunfire and spotted a dark SUV leaving the scene with its lights off, Patrick said.

The officer sent out a description of the SUV headed south on Route 21 from the parking lot, and police stopped the vehicle less than a mile away, Patrick said. Officers found the vehicle with several possible bullet holes and discovered a handgun on the ground near the vehicle, which was stopped at Route 21 at Washington Street, Patrick said.

Richardson-Wester had a hand injury and was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville early Thursday morning, Patrick said. He was arrested upon his release Thursday and charged Friday morning, Patrick said.

A 33-year-old male from North Chicago was treated at Vista West Medical Center in Waukegan for a gunshot wound to the leg that occurred in the In-Laws parking lot, police said.

No other injuries were reported, Patrick said, and the case remains under investigation.
