Stevenson teen wins music competition

The James Glacking Young Musicians Competition, sponsored by the North Suburban Symphony, based in Lake Forest, spotlights participants from four different high schools.
The competition was open to high school musicians in Lake County and northern Cook County. The seven participants represented four different high schools.
As the first prize winner, cellist Christopher Gao, a freshman at Adlai E. Stephenson High School in Lincolnshire, will solo with the North Suburban Symphony at its Season Finale Concert, which will take place at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 13, at the Gorton Community Center in Lake Forest.
The James Glacking Young Musicians Competition was named after James Glacking of Libertyville upon his death, who brought the competition over to the North Suburban Symphony after the Liberty Freemont Society disbanded.
Jim’s widow, Marjorie Glacking, still lives in Libertyville and supports the competition, as does Sunset Foods of Highland Park, Lake Forest, Libertyville, Northbrook and Long Grove.
