Arlington Heights Plass Appliance closing

Plass Appliance & Furniture is closing its Arlington Heights store after 25 years, according to a letter sent to customers.

The company's other stores, including seven in the suburbs, will remain open, the letter said.

Messages left at the company headquarters were not returned Tuesday.

A message on the store's phone at 1000 W. Northwest Highway said the store is closing and that a liquidation sale would start at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.

The letter said only those receiving letters are invited to the first week of the sale, although they can bring friends. The sale will be announced after Feb. 8, the letter said.

John Melaniphy, business and development coordinator for Arlington Heights, said Plass is in a very competitive business, and generally stores like it do more sales when located near big box stores and other businesses that generate traffic.

The Plass website states the company has showrooms in Addison, Elmhurst, Geneva, Marengo, Naperville and Northbrook as well as Chicago and South suburban Tinley Park.
