3 Ind. sibling-soldiers meet while in Afghanistan

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Three Indiana soldiers who are siblings recently had their first reunion in four years when they met up while serving in Afghanistan.

Biological brothers Sgt. Nicholaus Hale and Sgt. Adam Hale reunited Jan. 6 with their stepsister, Capt. Rikki Salyers, at Forward Operating Base Salerno near the Pakistan border.

The siblings’ father, Steven Hale of Sherwood, Ark., said he emailed Army Maj. Gen. Daniel Allyn asking if it would be possible for the siblings to meet while they were serving in Afghanistan. Their meeting came after they worked out their travel plans in the turbulent nation.

Salyers is back in Indiana while on leave. She tells the Journal & Courier that meeting up with her stepbrothers while in Afghanistan was “unreal” and a wonderful experience.
