Memorial services set for Arlington Heights couple

Public memorial services for Angelita and Roger James, an Arlington Heights couple shot to death last week in what police determined was a murder-suicide, will be held later this month at the Des Plaines American Legion Post 36, where both were members.

Angelita James, 56, was a member of the legion’s Ladies Auxiliary. Her memorial service will be conducted by auxiliary members at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14 at the post, 1291 Oakwood Ave. Her husband, Roger James, 48, was commander of the American Legion, as well as a member of the Des Plaines Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2992. His service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 21 at the post.

Private memorial and funeral services for the couple already have been held. Angelita James was buried last weekend in Texas and Roger James was buried Tuesday in Kentucky, said Don Meseth, the new commander of the Des Plaines American Legion. For more information, call (847) 824-3236.

Police say Roger James, who had a long history of domestic violence, shot and killed his wife before turning his gun on himself.
