Manzullo to run in redrawn 16th District

Longtime Republican Congressman Don Manzullo has announced his House of Representatives re-election campaign for the redrawn 16th District, pitting him against freshman Congressman Adam Kinzinger.

Manzullo, who has represented the 16th District since 1993, is the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific and is a senior member of the House Financial Services Committee.

The redistricted map, which is being challenged in federal courts, moves Kinzinger from the 11th District to the 16th District.

Kinzinger ran for office as a Republican in the 2010 election after serving three tours in Iraq with the Air Force.

“While I don’t know exactly what the district will look like, I’m definitely running in the 16th District because my home is in by the map enacted by Illinois Democrats as well as the alternative map,” Manzullo said in a statement.

A ruling on the lawsuit is expected by the end of November.
