No injuries when train strikes car in Libertyville
No one was injured when a vehicle was struck by a Metra train early Tuesday morning in Libertyville, company spokesman Tom Miller said.
The Milwaukee District North train struck the car at 5:40 a.m. where the tracks crossed Butterfield Road, near Route 137, Miller said.
The train was stopped for about 26 minutes, Miller said. Both northbound lanes of Butterfield Road, approaching Route 137, were closed for a short time but reopened, Libertyville police said.
The Metra train, heading to Chicago through the North suburbs, was running behind schedule by about 30 minutes. It ran express from Lake Forest to Edgebrook, requiring some passengers to get off and switch trains at the Lake Forest stop, according to a Metra service advisory.
