Health insurance mandate no puzzle

Health insurance mandate no puzzle

I am puzzled by claims of conservatives that it is improper for Congress to require people to purchase health insurance or pay a penalty. They sound astonished that government would require its citizens to purchase something.

Do these people not drive cars? Every state in the nation has mandatory liability insurance laws that require citizens to purchase insurance. If they don’t there is a penalty — you don’t drive and if you do you are fined. There may be many legitimate objections to mandatory health care coverage. The concept of the government requiring its purchase is not one of them.
