Elgin Police nab Rockford man in undercover drug operation
A Rockford man is accused of selling crack cocaine and heroin to undercover Elgin police on several occasions, police said Friday.
Ronald T. Doss, 34, of the 900 block of 11th Street, was arrested Thursday night while trying to sell 4.5 ounces of crack cocaine to police. The drug had a street value of about $5,000, officials said.
Doss was nabbed as part of an clandestine police operation in which he sold heroin to undercover officers multiple times in recent weeks, Elgin Police Spokeswoman Sue Olafson said.
Court documents indicate Doss sold drugs to police Sept. 22, 23, 26 and 30.
Doss was charged with two counts of manufacture and delivery of cocaine, and eight counts of manufacture and delivery of heroin.
His bail was set Friday at $750,000, which means he needs $75,000 to get out of jail while his case is pending. Doss is due in court Thursday.
If found guilty of just one of the Class X felony drug selling charges, Doss could spend between 6 and 30 years in prison.
