Batavia man accused of battering child

A Batavia man faces charges of aggravated battery to a child, accused of injuring 3-month-old so badly the child had to be taken to a Level I trauma center.

Nicholas E. Glucksmann, 48, turned himself in at the Kane County jail Tuesday on a warrant issued Sept. 14, according to court documents. His bail was set at $150,000, and he can be released after paying $15,000 bond.

Batavia Detective Kevin Bretz said the boy’s parents brought him for treatment to a hospital. A physician, feeling the parents’ account of the injuries was inconsistent with the injuries, called Batavia police. The child sustained head trauma, according to the criminal complaint.

Glucksmann faces one count of aggravated battery to a child, a Class X felony punishable by a minimum of 6 to 30 years in prison if he is convicted. He would not be eligible for probation, and would have to register the rest of his life with the state’s Child Murderer and Violence Against Children registry.

Glucksmann also faces a Class 2 felony count of aggravated domestic battery, punishable by four years of probation to seven years in prison; and aggravated battery against a child, causing great bodily harm, a Class 3 felony punishable by 30 months probation up to five years in prison.

According to the charging complaints, Glucksmann “by any means he created a situation which subjected the victim to personal injury, namely, trauma about the head.” The child was younger than 13, and is referred to in the documents by initials. The incident took place April 16.
