Jeep plows through Rolling Meadows bank, injures 2 tellers
Two tellers at a Rolling Meadows bank were injured when a car drove through the bank's front doors Thursday afternoon, plowed through the lobby and crashed into the tellers' counter, according to police.
An elderly woman driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee accidentally hit the gas while in the bank's parking lot, 1951 S. Plum Grove Road, and drove through the Harris Bank's two front wooden doors.
One of the tellers was trapped under the counter, which the vehicle had run over, said Rolling Meadows Police Sgt. John Freese.
Both victims were taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, according to police.
“An elderly woman's foot slipped off the brake, went onto the gas, and she went right through the two front doors of the bank,” Rolling Meadows Police Chief Dave Scanlan said.
The Rolling Meadows Fire Department was forced to lift the vehicle off the teller counter to free the teller as well as the driver, who was trapped in the Jeep, according to police.
No citations had been issued as of Thursday night.
Debris could be seen scattering in the Jeep's path, and chunks of brick were missing from the facade of the entranceway to the bank.
“There is considerable structural damage to the building,” Freese said. “It is going to be closed for an indefinite amount of time.”
The driver was the only person in the vehicle and was uninjured during the crash.
